High-performance LiDAR instrument with depolarisation measurement Ceilometer CL61

The Vaisala CL61 ceilometer represents a groundbreaking technology that combines traditional ceilometer measurements, such as cloud bases and heights, with innovative depolarization capabilities. This depolarization allows for precise differentiation of particles and precipitation types, leading to significantly improved situational awareness and weather forecasting.

The CL61 offers numerous advantages that other ceilometers cannot provide:

  • Differentiation between liquid and solid cloud and precipitation particles
  • Detection of the melting layer
  • Tracking of dust, sand, and volcanic ash layers
  • More accurate resolution of mixed aerosol layers in the boundary layer
  • Improved overall understanding of atmospheric conditions

The CL61 achieves these functions by measuring attenuated backscatter profiles in two polarization directions to calculate the depolarization ratio. Its optical system ensures a high signal-to-noise ratio and allows for detailed vertical profiles up to a height of 15.4 km (9.6 miles).

The KELAG products offered can be specifically adapted or extended by us to various applications through further customer requests.
